Sources.-Figures extracted or calculated from data quoted in Food, Health and Income, by Sir John Boyd Orr. Original data from British Association Reports, and from papers by Sir Alfred Flux and Sir Albert Feavearyear. The 1934 figures do not tally exactly with official " pre-war "estimates (which refer to 1934-38) but are of roughly the same order. The major deviations are in total meat, which may be affected by the basis of calculation employed, and in eggs, for which the " pre-war "estimates have recently had to be revised.
