Make interim provision as to the operation of the law A.D. 1949

in relation to India, and persons and things in any way belonging to or connected with India, in view of India's becoming a Republic while remaining a member of the Commonwealth.

B

E it enacted by the King's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:-

relation to

1.—(1) On and after the date of India's becoming a Republic, Operation of all law which is in force on that date, whether being a rule of the law in law, or a provision of an Act of Parliament or of any other India in view enactment or instrument whatsoever, shall, until provision to of India's the contrary is made by the authority having power to alter that becoming a law and subject to the provisions of subsection (4) of this section, Republic. have the same operation in relation to India, and persons and things in any way belonging to or connected with India, as it would have had if India had not become a Republic.

(2) The preceding subsection shall have effect, as it has effect in relation to law which is in force on the date of India's becoming Republic, in relation to the following law coming into force thereafter, that is to say-

(a) a provision which comes into force after that date of an Act of Parliament or of any other enactment or instru- ment whatsoever passed or made before or on that date; and
