CABINET
OFFICES OF PROFIT UNDER THE CROWN
NOTE BY THE PRIME MINISTER
It is desirable to use Members of Parliament wherever possible on Committees and public bodies. Their service is an advantage to the Committees; it gives the individuals themselves useful experience; and it pleases Parliament as a whole. At the same time it is imperative that Members should not be exposed to the risk of disqualification through any infringement of the Statute dealing with the holding of Offices of Profit under the Crown. The law in regard to these matters is very complicated and in order to avoid the risk of disqualification Ministers should consult the Law Officers before making any of these appointments.
