THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR NORTHERN IRELAND said that the rec ent arrest of five Provisional Irish Republican Army members in the Republic of Ireland and France had been an outstanding success. The Irish Garda had been both efficient and co- operative, while the French police had also taken rapid action. But the threat from Irish terrorism on the continent remained.

4.HE FOREIGN AND COMMONWEALTH SECRETARY said that, at its meeting on 17 July, the Foreign Affairs Council had followed up the remit from the Economic Summit for help to Poland and Hungary. The Council had endorsed action for the immediate supply of for Poland. The trade and co-operation agreement with Polad sould be finalised shortly: and on 1 August the convene a meeting of a wider group of paged by the Summit, to co-ordinate all forms of help for P and Hungary.
