Assistance for Poland

THE FOREIGN AND COMMONWEALTH SECRETARY said that the

greement between the Community and Poland, which the United Kingdom had done much to promote, would be signed

ortly. It would provide for increased trade and economic co-operation.

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER said that suggestions from Denmark and certain other member states for loans to Poland by the European Investment Bank should be resisted. Otherwise a dangerous precedent would be set for loans to non-Community spuntries and for by-passing the requirements of the International Monetary Fund.
