4. Table C (i.) shows the detail of transport required for the distribution of troops, with their equipment, to their sections of defence, the points at which it will be required, and how it will be furnished.

All the transport detailed in this table will be maintained until all the troops and stores have been distributed to their sections, when the whole or part thereof may be discharged at the discretion of the O.C.A.S.C., who will bear in mind the contingency of sections having to be reinforced and provide therefor.

5. Table C (ii.) shows the detail of transport permanently required for-

(1.) The delivery of rations.

(2.) The supply of ammunition and stores other than those enumerated in table C (i.).

(3.) The removal of sick and wounded.

(4.) The supply of water to Stonecutters and Lyemun.

Table C (i.) shows the temporary transport required, while Table C (ii.) gives the permanent transport to be maintained.

6. In addition to those mentioned in the above tables, the O.C.A.S.C. will, in conference with the Captain Superintendent of Police, entertain coolies for the following purposes

(1.) 18 to act as English-speaking Chinese scouts and messengers, whom he will distribute, 6 to the District Engineer, 8 to the D.A.A.G. (A), and 4 to the D.A.A.G. for Intelligence.

(2.) 280 to act as doolie bearers, whom he will send to the Principal Medical Officer.

(3.) 80 for working the ammunition lifts in the batteries, whom he will send to O.C.R.A.

(4.) 2,085 for transport of guns and carriage of ammunition of movable armament, whom be will send to the O.C.R.A.

(5.) 370 for transport of guns and carriage of ammunition of 2.5-in. guus, whom he will send to the O.C. Hong Kong Volunteers.

(6.) 48 for sanitation, whom he will distribute to each Officer commanding a section of the defence.

(7.) 60 for carriage of water to troops in the field, whom he will distribute to each Officer commanding a section of the defence.

(8.) 200 for work in the Ordnance workshops, whom he will send to the C.0.0. (9.) For the Coolie Corps.

7. Two Coolie Corps will be formed, consisting of 6 superintendents, 6 headmen, and 240 coolies each. The 6 headmen will be English-speaking Chinamen. These numbers would vary from time to time according to circumstances. The Head quarters of these Coolie Corps will be, one in the Victoria Barracks, Victoria, and the other at Whitfield Barracks, Kowloon, which will be vacant when the troops are mobilized, and thus available for this purpose.

Each particular batch of coolies would be employed on the same journey, with a view to minimise the errors made by illiterate Chinese in the delivery of stores, &c., and with a view to ensure greater regularity and despatch.

N.B.-Coolies required as telephone linesmen will be entertained by the District

Engineer.

8. The O.C.A.S.C. will arrange with the C.0.0. for the distinguishing arm- badge, &c., for the Coolie Corps and the coolies working the ammunition lifts.

(ii.)~ Supplies.

9. The D.A.A.G. (B), assisted by the officers of the A.S.C., will, on the threatened outbreak of hostilities, form two main ration depôts, one on the recreation ground at Victoria, where the gun-sheds, when built, will become available as godowns, supple- mented if necessary by mat-sheds, and the other at Whitfield Barracks, Kowloon where ample accommodation will be found.
