detailed in Table E (ii), and will man the observing stations, electric lights, and engines. One officer combines the duties of O.C.S.M. Lyemun and Station Torpedo Officer, and is assisted in the former duties by a N.C.O. Military Mechanist Electrician.
10. The movements of the laying-out boats necessarily govern the work of the shore parties. The following is the order of work:-
Case, Store, and Connecting-up Parties.-(1.) Line of mines No. IV mine-field. (2.) Line of mines No. III mine-field.
(3.) Groups of E.C. mines in previously detailed order of laying out.
Cable Parties.-(1.) No. IV mine-field cables.
(2.) B.B., C.C., D.D., H.H., J.J., K.K. L. M. T. N. Y. U. group cables.
(3.) Branch and intermediate cables for lines of mines in Friendly Channel, No. III mine-field.
(4.) Y. Z. A.A., E.E., F.F. G.G., O. P. W. X. U. A. S. group cables.
(5.) Branch cables for L. M. N. O. B.B., C.C., D.D., and H.H. groups of E.C.
mines.
(6.) Remainder of group cables.
(7.) Remainder of branch cables for E.C. mines in order of laying out.
Priming Parties.-Fitting-room parties will prime in the order of the mines required.
11. The Divisional Officer Submarine Mining will act as Staff Officer for Submarine Mining; he will visit the various posts as may be necessary, and will be responsible for all arrangements being complete and in working order.
In case of an attack he will proceed at once to the point where his services are most required.
12. With a view to ensure in time of war
•
(1.) The safe entry of friendly vessels with the least possible delay.
(2.) The exclusion of hostile vessels attempting to enter either by force or stratagem.
(3.) The regular and orderly management of traffic at a time when it is liable to congestion:
the regulations given on p. 59 have been framed and will be put in force at the discretion of Senior Naval and Military Officers when hostilities are threatening.
