The signallers will be posted at Fly Point, and the telegraphists at the telegraph station in Lower Belcher's.
Position of Commander.--The Commander of the section and the section C.R.A. will be in Upper Belcher's.
Method of Quartering.-The troops will be quartered as follows:- In Lower Belcher's casemates and guard-room:
25 R.A. and 2 infantry.
The remainder will be encamped near Upper Belcher's, with a small R.A. detachment at Victoria, until mat-sheds are built for their accommodation.
Camp Equipment and Stores.-The camp equipment and stores and tools required for use in the section are enumerated in the annexed Schedules XVII (2) and XXVIII (2). All the articles are kept separate by the S.O.S.O. ready for immediate issue, and on mobilization will be sent straight to the head-quarters of the section by means of transport to be provided by the Officer Com- manding Army Service Corps without requisition. The Section Commander will receive the stores on the ground, and will sign the customary receipt vouchers.
Reinforcement in case of Attack.-In case of attack the infantry would be at once reinforced by the half-company from the reserve, together with one or more complete companies of European infantry from the reserve or from the Southern Defence, as may be ordered according to circumstances. If the naval attack is persistent, and fresh gunners are required beyond what assistance can be obtained from the infantry, Royal Artillery might be drafted from Lyemun in the event of no attack from the east being threatened.
Communications. The main lines of communication with (a) the reserves
are :----
(a.) The road along the sea front.
(b.) The Caine Road at an average level of 200 feet above the sea, which
passes by Upper Belcher's and Fly Point.
(c.) The path over the aqueduct about 400 feet level, which, coming from Pokfulum Reservoir, leads by Victoria Battery to Richmond Terrace, and thence by Robinson Road.
All three are good metalled roads, practicable for artillery, except that
portion of (c) lying westward of Richmond Terrace.
(b.) In the Section.-Communication by road exists between Victoria Battery and Belcher's, but it is circuitous, and a more direct pathway should be constructed. A pathway is also required from Belcher's up to the aqueduct passing by the observing station, also a pathway from the Pokfulum Road 200 yards south of Fly Point to the aqueduct, and a pathway along the northern face of Mount Davis, in continuation of the Praya Road.
(c.) With IVth Section.-A good metalled road exists with slight gradient by Pokfulum to Aberdeen connecting this section with all the southern
sections.
(d.) With Others.-Communication with all other sections is by water.
Telegraphs, &c.-There is a telegraph station in Lower Belcher's, and from thence telephonic communication with Upper Belcher's, Fly Point, and Victoria Batteries.
A visual signalling station in Fly Point Battery communicates with Sandy Bay Signal Station and, on emergency, with Stonecutter's West.
