Orders to O.C. Section VIII (Hong-nei-Chong).

General Duties.-The Section Commander will at all times keep himself familiarized with the character of the area comprised in his command, with all detail of troops and material assigned to his section, and with the objects and duties intrusted to him.

On mobilization he will be directly responsible to the General Commanding for at once reporting any deficiencies for maintaining the discipline and efficiency of the troops placed under his charge, and for the due performance of these instructions.

He will also, on mobilization, be responsible for the quartering of his men. In active operations he will, so far as is compatible with his responsibility, leave the working of the arms, other than his own, to the Senior Officers of those arms respectively.

Any officers and men of the Fortress Company and Submarine Mining Company who may be localized in the sections will be under his command, but subject to the supervision for engineering and submarine mining purposes of the Engineer officers in charge of the district and of submarine mining respectively.

Area. The area of this section is thus bounded, viz.: on the west by a line drawn from the brickworks in Deep Water Bay to the top of Mount Cameron; on the east by a line drawn from the head of Tylam Bay up to the top of Mount Parker, by the centre of the long spur which runs down from that mountain to the bay; on the south by a line joining Repulse Bay to Tytam Tuk.

It is practically divided for defence into two valleys, viz., those of Deep Water Bay and Tytam Bay.
