The head-quarters of the section will be at Mount Gough, from which outposts are sent to the southern bend of the road round Mount Kellett, and to the southern end of Mount Gough spur, overhanging Aberdeen Dock, and a support half way up that spur, where a block-house (B 5) is designed for the signal station.

Method of Quartering.-The troops will be encamped on Mount Gough until mat-sheds are built for their accommodation.

Camp Equipment and Stores.-Camp equipment, stores, and tools required for use in the section are enumerated in the annexed Schedules XVII (6) and XVIII (6). All the articles are kept separate by the S.O.S.O., ready for immediate issue, and on mobilization will be sent straight to the head-quarters of the section by means of transport to be provided by the O.C.A.S.C. without requisition. The Section Commander will receive the stores on the ground, and will sign the customary receipt vouchers.

Reinforcement in case of Attack.-If attacked, the infantry company from No. VII would support it on the left, and infantry and guns would soon be available from the Victoria Reserve, coming by Plantation Gap or Magazine Gap.

Communications.-There is a good path from the head-quarters to the front, but communication with the block-house and along the Mount Gough spur would require to be improved.

Method of Supply: Small-arm Ammunition.-On marching out, all ranks An additional carry in their pouches 100 rounds per Lee-Metford rifle. 100 rounds per rifle is dispatched by hired transport to the section as a first reserve. This reserve should always be kept up, and requisitions on the O.S.D. should be furnished accordingly.

Food. Rations will be issued daily from the A.S. Corps head-quarters at 4 A.M., and will be escorted to the section by parties furnished from the Victoria Reserve.

Water.—Laid on in pipes to the Mount Gough Police Station.

Transport. There should be little transport required within the section itself. In the event of any being required, intimation should be sent to the O.C.A.S.C., Victoria Reserve.

Depots. All stores will be accumulated at the Mount Gough Police Station.

Medical Services and Dressing Stations.-The Schedule of Troops, &c., shows the number of the Medical Staff allotted to the section, and the Schedule of Equipment indicates the hospital equipment furnished for the two dressing stations which will be established in the first instance at Mount Gough Police Station and the valley near the advanced outposts, for each of which a ward coolie has been supplied.

In addition, the following surgical and medical equipment will be furnished to the Section Commander by the P.M.O., viz. :-

Surgical haversack and water-bottle..

Field fracture box

Field tourniquets

First field dressings

Medical comforts as required.

A civil surgeon will also be attached to the section for duty with the troops.

Coolies for carrying the dhoolies and stretchers, mentioned in the Schedule of Equipment, will be indented for as required.

Modes of Attack.-The modes of attack that may be expected are an attempted landing on the coast or in the docks, covered by the fire of ships.

The ships would be exposed to the fire of the three howitzers on Bennet's Hill (H 2), and probably to the more distant fire of those above Deep Water Bay (H 3).

The gun-boats and torpedo-boats might also be expected to co-operate against them. If a landing should still be attempted, the works in front line should be occupied, and the company reinforced by infantry and guns. If the
