The battery of three (8-inch) howitzers is placed on the knoll close to and west of the main road, at the junction with it of the two roads leading to the private houses on the spurs. It is marked on the map as H 1. The half- battery of three 9-prs. is placed near the gap in the hills through which the main road passes. There are no artillery immediately available for these guns. One Havildar and twenty-six H.K. R.A. from Kowloon Dock are told off to man them in the event of their being able to be spared from that battery. In the meantime twenty-seven infantry of the section are trained to their use.

Scope. The object of this section is to prevent ships anchoring in the bays. and, if possible, to prevent a landing, but, if necessary, to retire on to the second line, and at all hazards to hold the main road and the hills which command the batteries of Section II.

This section is, with Sections V, VI, and VII, under the general tactical command of the officer second in command of the European infantry regiment.
