No. 4.-Demolitions.

[To follow "Communications" and "Works to be constructed," in Appendix IV, Section II of original scheme, Belcher's Battery.]

The houses between Belcher's Battery and the harbour to be demolished Demolitions. where they interfere with the artillery fire and submarine mining defence.

Note.-As these houses are in process of construction, the actual demoli- tion required cannot at present be defined.

No. 5.-Time required to lay out Mines.

[To follow at the end of Appendix V of original scheme.] Preliminary Defence.

This defence will consist of the large observation mines in the Lyemun Time Channel, lines of observation mines in the Friendly Channel in the western required to entrance to the harbour, a row of E. C. mines across the western entrance lay out and in the channel north of Stonecutters' Island. Time, fourteen days.

Complete Defence.

Completing the western defence to four rows of E. C. mines, laying the mine-field inside Lyemun, advanced defences, &c. Time, two months.
