Most of the redoubts required for the defence of the rears of the position would, on account of the very rocky nature of the ground, take a long time to make. It is therefore essential that their construction should not be delayed till the outbreak of hostilities.

With reference to the intrenching tools and stores, most of them are at the station, with the exception of sandbags and wire entanglement, of which

there are none in store.
