With reference to my letter No.083/3860
D.G.M.I. (B) of the 29th of October last, relative to the strength of the Hong Kong garrison, I am directed
by the Secretary of State for War to state for Mr
Secretary Chamberlain's information that as there are
no barracks available at Hong Kong for the accommodation of the 3rd native battalion, and as there is at present a considerable force of His Majesty's troops in Northern
China, Mr Secretary Brodrick has decided to postpone the consideration of the proposed increase in the Hong
Kong garrison until the termination of the war in South
Africa.
