APPENDIX (D).
Stores required by Examination Battery.
1. Flagstaff. A small flagstaff with truck and halyards. The length of the flagstaff would depend on the distance of the battery from the examination anchorage and the site of the battery. The staff should be hinged or otherwise fitted, so that it can be readily taken down when the battery is in action.
2. Answering Signal.—The military pendant to answer the signals made by the examination steamer by day.
A flashing lamp to answer the examination steamer at night.
A foghorn to answer the examination steamer in thick weather.
3. Semaphore.-A large size mechanical semaphore, as supplied to ships for communicating with the examination steamer by day.
4. Telescope and Glasses.—A telescope with tripod and a pair of binoculars for night use.
The following is a complete list of stores required by each examination battery. (Any alteration to this list which may from time to time become necessary will be inserted in the Regulations for the Equipment of the Regular Army, Part 2, Section XII (a)) :—
