APPENDIX (A).
Details of Net Defence.
The net defence in all cases consists of a series of floats, each about 25 feet long and 2 feet square, connected together by a 31-inch jackstay rove through eyebolts.
The nets are 28 feet deep, each net weighing approximately 17.5 cwt.; each float will support approximately 28 cwt.
The nets are kept laced together in the requisite lengths, and stowed near the places where the separate units will be rigged.
These nets are:-
Naval Dock, Hong Kong
Naval Basin, Hong Kong Naval Camber, Kowloon
Commercial Dock, Ilongham Quarry Bay Dock..
Floats.

The positions for rigging the net defence for the Naval Dock, Naval Basin, and Hongham Docks are shown on plan of Hong Kong Dockyard in pocket at end.
Moorings.-Moorings will be laid off the Naval Dock, for the remainder the floats will be secured to ring bolts in the walls of the entrance, and bollards.
Stowage of Nets, Floats, &c.
Floats. All floats are stowed in Hong Kong Naval Yard on north wall of Camber, except for Kowloon Camber, which are stowed at Kowloon.
Nets.-Nets are stowed as under :-

Dockyard.
Inner wall of Kowloon Camber. North wall of Hong Kong Camber. Store house at Quarry Bay.
Jackstays, wire pendants for securing the floats, hook ropes and lacings are kept in Rigging Loft and labelled, also a coil of 2-inch H.L. tarred hemp rope for securing and assembling floats as they are launched.
APPENDIX (B).
Details of Moorings for Naval Dock Nets.
Chain cable, anchors, and buoys for moorings are kept on Kowloon Breakwater. They will be brought over in Kowloon lighter, towed by launch from the department of the Commander (N).
The moorings consist of 7 shackles of mixed chain, with bridles at second and fifth shackles; two 18-cwt. anchors and 10th class buoys as per sketch.
