(9.) Mobilization Orders by F.C. Eastern Defences to O.C. S3 Co. R G.A.
(i.) Precautionary Stage.
1. Guards for Batteries, P.F. Cells, F.C. Posts, Examination Gun, &c.—On the order to mobilize for the precautionary stage being received, the following guards, &c., for the various batteries, &c., will be at once detailed from the Manning Details of the works. You will report to me directly manning is complete, and act as my Staff Officer during mobilization.
F.C. Post, Devil's Peak.-Total 7. 1 officer, 3 gunners as look-outs, 1 P.F. specialist,
2 telephonists and signallers.
Accommodation: F.C. Post and Gough Barracks.
Gough Battery.-Total 13. 1 n.c.o. and 10 men R.G.A., 1 P.F. specialist, and
1 telephonist and signaller.
Accommodation: R.G.A., Gough Barracks.
Pottinger Battery (Selected).—Total 16, 1 officer, 1 sergeant, 1 n.c.o., and 10 men,
1 P.F. specialist, and 2 telephonists and signallers.
Accommodation: Officers' shelter and barracks.
Pakshawan Battery, Examination Gun, A.1.-- Total 30. 1 sergeant and 28 men, and
1 telephonist and signaller.
Accommodation: Barracks.
Tytam Gap (attached to Section Commander, Island).-Total 20. 2 n.c.os. and 18
men.
Accommodation : 3 tents.
Collinson Look-out.-Total 11. 2 n.c.os. and 9 men (including 2 telephonists and
4 signallers).
Accommodation: 1 tent (camp outfit).
2. Marching out to Forts, &c.-The above details will at the appointed hour parade in marching order, rolled blankets to be carried and water bottles filled. You will issue 20 rounds of s.a. ammunition to each man. Men are allowed 20 lb. of kit, officers 60 lb. The guards will be marched off by the Orderly Officer, who will visit each fort to see that the guards have gone to their appointed places. He will then proceed to the F.C. post, from whence he will report to you that everything is correct for the information of the Fire Commander.
3. Supply of Equipment, Rations, &c., by Q.M.S.-You will arrange to issue on parade those necessary articles of mobilization equipment held on charge for the various batteries for the use of the guards, &c.
You will arrange for rations to be sent out daily to Gough, Pottinger, Pakshawan, Tytam Gap, and Collinson Look-out for Europeans.
4. Reliefs.-Commencing from the second day of mobilization for the pre- cautionary stage, the guards, signallers, telephonists, look-outs, and P.F. specialists will he relieved daily at one hour before sunset.
The arrangement of reliefs will be left to the Officer Commanding the company.
5. Officer visiting Guards and Sentries.-Every battery must be visited by an officer at least twice during the twenty-four hours, of which once will be by night.
6. Guards.--Guards are for the purpose primarily of protecting guns, &c., from malicious injury. All gates of forts, doors of magazines, P.F. cells, F.C. posts, &c., will be kept locked. P.F. shutters will be kept closed, except in the case of Pottinger Battery, and if being used for drill.
7. Sentries.-The following sentries will be posted at each battery :-
By day 1 flying sentry.
By night: 1 sentry over guns, 1 sentry over gates and fences.
8. Entry to Forts.-No man will be admitted to any fort or building by night who is unable to give the countersign.
