Hong Kong by the eastern entrance (Tathong Channel). The western entrance (Lamma Channel) will be closed to merchant vessels.
9. Eastern Examination Anchorage.-The eastern examination anchorage marked on Admiralty charts is in Chung Kwang 0, in the space included by the following boundaries:-
Northern. A line drawn from Maun Chau S. 63° E. (true) for a distance of 114
cables.
Southern.-A line drawn from Lyemun Point, S. 63° E. (true) for a distance of 12
cables.
Eastern.-A line drawn N. 38° E. (true) joining the extremities of the above two
lines.
All vessels are to be berthed as far to the eastward of the anchorage as possible, to avoid masking the military searchlights.
10. Local Warning to Shipping.-When these Regulations are in force, all merchant shipping other than junks approaching Hong Kong from seaward, will be warned by signal at Wag Lan and Gap Rock signal stations that they must proceed to the eastern examination anchorage by the eastern entrance (Tathong Channel).
11. Merchant Vessel Traffic from Canton River.-All merchant vessels and junks, when coming from Canton and Macao, must enter the port of Hong Kong by the Western Kap Sing Mun, i.e., the channel between Ma Wan and Lan Tau. The channel to the northward of Ma Wan will be closed, and is not to be used by any vessels while the examination service is in operation.
Four launches (see Appendix (A), page 181) will be employed to control this traffic. They will work from the Old Customs Station at the north end of Ma Wan.
12. Western Examination Anchorage. The western examination anchorage marked on Admiralty charts is to the westward of Stonecutters Island in the space enclosed by the following boundaries, viz:-
Northern.-A line drawn from 10-foot Rock off south-east point of Chun Hue
S. 63° E. (true) to Stonecutters Island.
Eastern. A line drawn from the point on Stonecutters Island, where the above
line meets it, S. 27° W. (true) for a distance of 10 cables. Western.-A line drawn from 8-foot Rock off south point of Chun Hue S. 27° W.
(true) for a distance of 4 cables.
Southern.-A line drawn S. 63° E. (true) joining the last two positions.
All vessels are to be berthed as far to the westward of the anchorage as possible, so as to avoid masking the military searchlights.
13. Junk Traffic.-On account of the immense volume of junk traffic carried on at Hong Kong, it has been found necessary to draw up the separate arrangement indicated in the following paragraphs as to the manner in which this description of traffic will be dealt with.
The junk examination anchorages have not been marked on Admiralty charts.
14. Junk Traffic from Westward.-From the westward junks may enter by the Lamma Channel, but they must not attempt to cross an imaginary line joining the western extremes of Stonecutters Island and Green Island; they are to pass to the west and north of Stonecutters Island to the examination anchorage.
14a. Junk Traffic from Canton River.-Junks coming from the Canton River from the westward are to enter the port by the Kap Sing Mun. The channel to the north- ward of Ma Wan will be closed.
15. The Western Junk Examination Anchorage.-The western junk examination anchorage is in the ordinary anchorage indicated in paragraph 12, Clause 1.
16. Junk Traffic from the Eastward.-From the eastward junks may enter by the eastern entrance (Tathong Channel).
