CHAPTER IV.

INSTRUCTIONS TO SECTION COMMANDERS.

CHAPTER IV.

(1.) General Instructions to all Section Commanders.

(i.) In Peace Time.

1. You will select, in conjunction with his C.O., an officer from the troops detailed to your section or command, to act as your S.O.

(ii.) At the Precautionary Stage.

2. The distribution of the troops and armament in your section is detailed in Table B (i). Although the sectional organization is not in force for Administrative purposes (vide Chapter II (A), paragraph 3), you are in executive command of the troops so detailed, and are responsible that the measures indicated in Chapter III, paragraph 1, are carried out so far as they apply to your section.

3. On application by you to his C.O. your Staff Officer will be placed at your disposal, and you will supply O.C. units of your section with a copy of your orders for the war stage, to be acted upon when notified.

4. The detail of works to be carried out is shown in Table E (i), the working plans and copy of map, showing exact localities of which should be in your possession. You will arrange with the R.E. officer of your section for the necessary supervising, detail the working parties, and report progress daily to the Major, General Staff. Stores will be supplied by the C.E., and works are to be pushed forward with the utmost vigour.

5. Ration arrangements as in peace.

6. The telephone communications are shown in Table E (vii). You are charged with the duties of providing tents for telephone posts in your section (where no permanent buildings exist), and for the lighting of all telephone offices at night. You will take immediate steps to ensure that all the telephones in your section are in working order and in connection with Fortress Headquarters.

7. Signalling arrangements are under the Brigade Signalling Officer, and are detailed in Chapter III (CC).

(iii.) At the War Stage.

8. On receipt of orders to mobilize, you will send an officer to the mobilization shed of the Ordnance Stores to receive over the equipment, stores, ammunition, tools, &c., allotted to your section, in accordance with hours named in Table H (ii), Chapter III; this officer will take over in sufficient time the necessary transport for their removal, detail the escorts and accompany them to Section Headquarters, reporting any deficiency on arrival.

9. No requisitions for Ordnance stores or transport will be required.
