NOTE.-Coolies on Island of Hong Kong accommodated in Victoria Barracks, those at Kowloon in Whitfield Barracks. Indian Regiments provide their own water coolies and dhoolie bearers (followers), so require smaller number of A.S.C. coolies. Water is laid on in all the forts and there are ample means of replenishing supply of water to men in the Field, especially so in Nos. II and III Sections. Sanitary services performed under Contract for Troops in Forts, &c. Field latrines for Troops encamped. Launches can be obtained from the various steam launch companies and private firms, about 150 in number, and can be hired for about 30 dollars a day. Junk and cargo boats are also available in large numbers.
All the above can be obtained with a day's notice.
Water boats can be obtained locally, and water can be carried in junks. Existing Water Transport Establishment fully mans the 4 W.D. launches and 4 rowing boats, and is under a Superintendent (European). Permanent Establishment to be maintained is as follows:-
To be engaged in addition to above
A.S.C. Coolie Corps (which includes present establishment, 52 strong) Ammunition carriers for movable armament at disposal of C.R.A.. Messengers
