Hong Kong Ballet
The Hong Kong Ballet, one of Asia's premier classical ballet companies, gave 39 performances locally in 2014 featuring a mix of classical and contemporary works such as Don Quixote, The Nutcracker and Nacho Duato's Castrati. The company also toured Japan and USA. Its extensive Education and Community Outreach Programmes reached over 20,000 young people.
Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra
The Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra gives over 140 concerts and arts education activities each season. In 2014, its concerts included the multi-media concert Picturesque Music and Chinese Music + Jazz Legend. It also organised the Second International Conducting Competition and was invited to give a concert in Singapore.
Hong Kong Dance Company
The Hong Kong Dance Company was established in 1981 to promote Chinese dance. Its 58 performances in 2014, including Glamour of Chinese Ethnic Dance, The Butterfly Lovers, Dim Sum Adventures @ Lung Fung Teahouse, Red Poppies, Storm Clouds and the Folk Dance Fiesta at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza, reached a total audience of more than 58,000.
Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra
The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra is the city's largest professional musical organisation, presenting over 150 concerts for 200,000 music lovers every year. Featuring international conductors and soloists, the orchestra performed a wide variety of music in 2014 and offered free concerts headlined by the ever popular Symphony Under The Stars. Through its acclaimed education programmes, over 40,000 young people learned about orchestral music. The orchestra also toured the Mainland in 2014.
Hong Kong Repertory Theatre
The Hong Kong Repertory Theatre aims to produce and develop excellent, creative and diverse theatrical productions of Chinese and Western works as well as local originals. Its 18 productions in 2014 included award-winning productions such as Shed Skin and other highlights included The Scongs: By Dreams Betrayed, Wait Until Dark and Attempts on her Life and Three Tall Women. It also hosted the inaugural International Black Box Festival extended its arts educational programmes, and toured Beijing, Guangzhou, Japan, Macao and Shanghai.
Hong Kong Sinfonietta
The Hong Kong Sinfonietta is one of Hong Kong's leading symphony orchestras. In 2014, it gave over 100 performances, including concerts with conductor Christoph Poppen, pianist Benjamin Grosvenor and violinist Benjamin Schmid. Its new UpClose Encounters series aims to give audiences a better understanding of classical music through classes, dialogue and chamber music performances.
