Professor Charles K. Kao, former Vice-chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, receives the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physics 'from Sweden's King Carl
Gustaf in Stockholm in
December. Professor Kao
was born in Shanghai but moved to Hong Kong in 1948 where he attended secondary school and lived during much of his career. He is widely regarded as the 'Father of Fibre Optics'.
