Notes: (1) The operations of the MTR and KCRC were merged on 2 December 2007. Previously Octopus users making railway interchanges at Kowloon Tong, Mei Foo, Nam Cheong, Tsim Sha Tsui and East Tsim Sha Tsui stations, were counted separately in MTR and KCRC passenger journeys. However, these passengers will be counted once in MTR passenger journeys after the merger. Hence, the figures after the merger are not strictly comparable with those of earlier figures.

(4)
Passenger journeys of East Rail, West Rail and Ma On Shan were counted under KCRC before 2 December 2007 but were counted under MTR thereafter.
In 2007, the average daily numbers of passenger journeys for individual modes of transport do not add up to total because figure for KCRC refers to the average of the first 335 days in 2007. Figures may not add up to total due to rounding.
