services in September 2005. Accordingly, they are not directly comparable to figures for earlier years.

(1) Figures cover both full-time and part-time students attending long programmes lasting for at least one school/

academic year. Figures do not include students attending adult education/tutorial/vocational courses.

(2) Figures from 2005/2006 onwards include pupils attending kindergarten classes (i.e. nursery, lower and upper classes)

in kindergarten-cum-child care centres upon harmonisation of pre-primary services in September 2005. Accordingly, they are not directly comparable to figures for earlier years.

(3) Figures include students in special schools.

(4) Apart from day schools and special schools, figures also cover students attending evening schools, craft level courses,

and programmes of the Project Yi Jin.

(5) Figures include students attending universities and colleges offering post-secondary courses including certificate/ diploma, associate degree or equivalent and bachelor degree or above; and also non-local registered and exempted academic courses offered jointly by overseas universities and local institutions or organisations.

(6) Starting from 2007/2008, figures include students attending other self-financing programmes offered by the University

Grants Committee-funded institutions.
