Hong Kong International Film Festival

Presented by the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society Limited, the 32nd Hong Kong International Film Festival offered a wide range of programmes. Awards presented during the event included the Asian Digital Competition awards, the Humanitarian Awards for Documentaries, the FIPRESCI Prize, the SIGNIS Award and the Fresh Wave Short Film Competition Award. More than 280 films from over 50 countries were shown during the 21-day festival. Fringe activities included talks, seminars and exhibitions.

Lord Wilson Heritage Trust

The Lord Wilson Heritage Trust was established in 1992 to promote the preservation and conversation of Hong Kong's heritage. During the year, the trust granted around $974,000 to support eight heritage-related activities and research. projects.

Museums

Hong Kong Museum of Art

In 2008, the Hong Kong Museum of Art jointly presented with major overseas museums the exhibitions 'Paris 1730-1930: A Taste

1730-1930: A Taste for China' and 'Otium Ludens Leisure and Play: Ancient Relics of the Roman Empire'. The former showed the art inspired and influenced by Chinese aesthetic taste which flourished in Paris. from the 18th to the 20th century, while the latter illustrated the power, politics and luxurious lifestyle enjoyed 2 000 years ago by the elite of the Roman Empire. These were followed by a touring exhibition entitled 'Strolling in

'Strolling in the Fragrant Garden: Paintings of Ju Chao and Ju Lian' which featured the finest selections of the Two Jus from museums in Hong Kong and Guangdong.

By invitation from the Ministry of Culture in China as part of the Olympic and Paralympic Games celebration, an exhibition 'Made in Hong Kong', featuring the work of Hong Kong artists, was shown at the Beijing World Art Museum. Another exhibition, 'Story of the Horse', celebrated Hong Kong's hosting of the equestrian events of the 2008 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The 'Hong Kong Art: Open Dialogue' exhibition series, arranged by guest curators, provoked a dialogue between Hong Kong artists and the community as well as among local and overseas artists, the aim being to generate a more dynamic artistic experience. Other thematic exhibitions held during the year included 'A Eulogy of Hong Kong Landscape in Painting: The Art of Huang Bore', 'No Frontiers: The Art of Ding Yanyong' and 'in Salute to Tong King Sum'. These illustrated the profound accomplishments of these veteran Hong Kong masters. These shows and the permanent exhibitions attracted more than 291 000 visitors.
