The Chief Executive presents honours and awards to 303 recipients at the 2003 Honours and Awards Presentation Ceremony held at Government House; the honours include Bravery Medals awarded posthumously to six front-line public sector medical staff who sacrificed their lives during the SARS outbreak.

On behalf of the people of Hong Kong, the Chief Executive conveys congratulations to the Central People's Government on the success of China's first manned space mission.

The Chief Executive arrives in Bangkok for the 11th APEC Economic Leaders Meeting on October 20 and 21.

Meeting in Geneva, the General Council of the World Trade Organisation announces acceptance of the offer of Hong Kong, China to host the next WTO Ministerial Conference.

The Secretary for Justice attends a seminar in Beijing on cooperation between Beijing and Hong Kong legal practitioners.

The Chief Secretary for Administration visits the Republic of Korea for a series of meetings and activities in Seoul promoting Hong Kong.

The Chief Executive and the Mayor of Shanghai, Mr Han Zheng, co-chair the first meeting, held in Hong Kong, of the Hong Kong/Shanghai Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference.

The Financial Secretary speaks at the first investment environment seminar organised in Tokyo by the HKSAR Government and the Guangdong authorities; the seminar highlights the opportunities open to Japanese companies under CEPA.

The Chief Executive hosts a reception at Government House in honour of the Delegation of China's First Manned Space Mission, led by Mr Hu Shixiang, and including the first spaceman, Colonel Yang Liwei; the delegation is beginning a six-day visit that includes a number of public activities.

The Chief Executive addresses a plenary session of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2003, in Hainan.

The Secretary for Home Affairs, Dr Patrick Ho, welcomes the decision of the East Asian Games Association, meeting in Macau, to award the 5th East Asian Games in 2009 to Hong Kong.
