Notes: The Consumer Price Indices (CPIs) from October 1999 onwards are compiled based on expenditure weights obtained from the 1999/2000 Household Expenditure Survey. The CPIs for earlier periods are compiled based on old weights and have been re-scaled to the new base period for linking with the new index series.
The Composite CPI is compiled based on the average expenditure pattern of all households covered in the CPI(A), CPI(B) and CPI(C). The CPI(A) is compiled based on the average expenditure pattern of about 50% of households, which had an average monthly expenditure of $4,500 to $18,499 in the base period, i.e. Oct. 1999 to Sep. 2000.
The CPI(B) is compiled based on the average expenditure pattern of about 30% of households, which had an average monthly expenditure of $18,500 to 32,499 in the base period, i.e. Oct. 1999 to Sep. 2000.
The CPI(C) is compiled based on the average expenditure pattern of about 10% of households, which had an average monthly expenditure of $32,500 to $65,999 in the base period, i.e. Oct. 1999 to Sep. 2000.
(1) "Water and sewage charges" previously under "Housing" section has been re-classified as a component of the "Electricity, gas and water"
section.
