The Deputy Secretary for Information Technology and Broadcasting, Ms Annie Tam, visited Malaysia and Singapore in September. In Kuala Lumpur, she visited the Multimedia Supercorridor, Cyberjaya and Putrajaya. She also met senior representatives of NHK, Motorola Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Fujitsu. She gave a presentation on the Cyberport at the International Institute of Communications Forum. In Singapore, she visited the National Computer Board and Science Park. The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr W.K. Lam, visited Singapore in March to attend a breakfast meeting held by the Singapore Civil Service College and meet the college's Board of Governors.

The Deputy Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Mr Chan, and the authority's Head (External Relations), Ms Julia Leung, visited Singapore in August to attend the Fifth Meeting of Finance and Central Bank Deputies of the Manila Framework Group.

On June 29, the HKETO hosted a dinner for the board members of the Thai Hong Kong Trade Association in Bangkok to celebrate the second anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong SAR. The office also put an advertisement about the anniversary on the Electronic Information Screen on the external wall of the Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre on July 1.

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, at the invitation of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, staged two performances in Singapore in May. The HKĖTO was one of the sponsors for the gala night performance.

In May, the HKETO and Hong Kong Tourist Association jointly organised a fashion show in Kuala Lumpur featuring two Hong Kong designers, Barney Cheng and Flora Cheong-leen, who showcased their latest summer/spring collections during the show attended by more than 650 people.

The HKETO and Hong Kong Tourist Association also jointly organised two special screenings of the film Tempting Heart in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with the launch of the Hong Kong Movie Map in October.

The Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Thailand organised a gala dinner and cultural performance in November to commemorate the 72nd birthday of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The HKETO participated in the dinner and sponsored a lion dance performance to mark the occasion. Before the dinner, a sculpture crafted by a Beijing artist was presented as a birthday gift from Hong Kong to the King.

The HKETO and The Peak magazine co-hosted a dinner in November featuring a jewellery show by Hong Kong jewellery designer, Ms Kai Yin Lo.

The Chief Secretary for Administration led a delegation of business leaders and senior government officials to Australia in late November. Visiting as an official guest of the Australian Government, the Chief Secretary met in Canberra senior federal ministers and parliamentarians, including the Deputy Prime Minister Mr John Anderson, Leader of the Opposition Mr Kim Beazley, the Minister for Foreign
