Balloons, buses, and rallies carried the messages, while thousands

of students knocked on most doors in Hong Kong in a major bid

to enrol voters for the first Legislative Council election

of the HKSAR. It will be held on May 24, 1998, and its term of office will begin on July 1. It will have 60 members: 30 from functional constituencies, each representing an economic, social, professional or other sector of the community; 20 returned

by geographical constituencies which cover the whole SAR;

and 10 returned by the Election Committee comprising 800 elected representatives of the community.
