This temple on the island of Cheung Chau is dedicated to the local patron, Pak Tai, Supreme Emperor of the Dark Heaven. Cheung Chau has retained its strong sense of community and its traditional fishing industry. Hong Kong has always depended on the sea for fishing and for trade, and Tin Hau, the Queen of Heaven and Protector of Seafarers, is also worshipped widely. Kwan Tai (the God of War and the source of righteousness), and Hung Shing (the God of the South Seas and a weather prophet) are two more deities with a strong following.
