This attracted further comment from banking interests and the accounting profession and, following resolution of the many points raised, it was decided to withdraw it and present a new bill which was finally passed on 14th October 1964. This Banking Ordinance came into force by proclamation on 1st Decem- ber. A Commissioner of Banking was appointed earlier in the year in anticipation of a provision in the Ordinance for such an office. He will exercise general supervision and control over the carrying out of the provisions of the Ordinance.
