The Hakka
(stranger families)
have through
several centuries
moved gradually
southwards,
and although
-except for the young girl's
headgear-
they are more
indistinguishable
from the local
Cantonese
or less
they still preserve,
in their language
and diet,
distinct traces
of their more
northern origin.
