Among the charitable ventures are numbered the Salvation Army Child- ren's Home and the special relief work for the poor and destitute carried out by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The educational work is done mainly in the Grant-in-Aid Schools, which are re- ferred to elsewhere in this report. The social activities of the Churches are too numerous to mention but among them two of the most active are the Catholic Centre, which houses a chapel, library, reading room, lecture halls, etc., and the Sailors' and Sold- iers' Home run under the auspices of the English Methodist
Church.
