Chairman's Statement
Operating Results
The Group's consolidated net profit after tax for 1985 was $39.3 million as compared with $41.2 million for 1984, a decrease of 4.6% over the previous year. As explained more fully under the section of Associated Companies in this statement, the increase in the share of losses of associates in 1985 is the main factor which accounts for the above-mentioned decrease in Group profit for 1985.
The contribution to Group profit from the different sectors of your Group of Companies' activities is set out in page 21 of this Annual Report.
Your Directors have recommended a final dividend of 10 cents per share which together with the interim dividend paid, make a total distribution of 15 cents per share, the same as for 1984. However, as the capital of the Company had been increased in 1985 by a Bonus Issue of one bonus share for every five shares held, the total dividend payment for 1985 is 20% over that of 1984.
Members registered in the Company's Register of Members on the 1st April 1986 will be entitled to the above distribution. The earnings per share was 23.6 cents as compared with 24.7 cents per share for 1984, as adjusted.
