THE HONGKONG WEEKLY PRESS AND
The twelfth annual athletic meeting pro- 'moted by the senior sporting organisation of the Colony took place on Saturday at the Happy Valley. The weather was all that could be desired and there was a large attendance, which included many ladies. The pleasure of the spectators was much enhanced by the selections played during the afternoon by the Rajputs Band under the leadership of Bandmaster Coke, The exhibition of sport was on the whole good, though it was perhaps to be regretted that the runner Andrews frightened off competitors in the flat races.

BICYCLE RACE, THREE MILES, HANDICAP— 1, J. Forbes, sor.; 2, J. MacRae, 50 yards. The winners kept close together at the tail of the bunch and when entering the second and last lap Forbes took the lead with MacRae in close at tendance. On the last round he increased his lead and won by several length. Time-9m 32.

220 YARDS HANDICAP FLAT RACE.—1, A. E. Combes, scr. In the final Coombes and J. F. Castro ran a dead heat, but Castro afterwards allowed Combes a walk over.
TUG-OF-WAR-83rd. Coy. R.G.A., beat H. Coy, of the Buffs after three exciting pulls.
BOYS RACE, 440 yards-1, D. A. Almada; 2. J. Wray.
HALE MILE FLAT RACE-1, A. W. Andrews; Time-2m. 6 2/5s. In this Andrews was ac companied by four others at the start in order to make a race. Of those Ellis was the only one to cover the distance, but Andrews had an easy victory.
SACK RACE-1, Pte. Marsh, Buffs.
ONE MILE FLAT RACE HANDICAP-1, D. MacRae 120 yards; 2, J. Forbes. 120 yards. Time-4m. 50 4/5 secs. A good race between first and second men, Ellis the scratch man finding the handicap too severe to make a good show.

In beautiful weather, the annual sports meet- ing of the Lusitano Recreation Club was held on the race course at Happy Valley on Monday, the ground being kindly lent by the Hongkong Jockey Club for the occasion. BICYCLE RACE, TWO MILES, HANDICAP-1. J. MacRae, 25 yards; 2, A. H. Carroll, 125 yards; 3, E. Moyling, 125 yards. Time-6.m 11secs. This proved a very exciting race, Carrol making the pace until the last lap. Forbes fell at the start and dropped out. MacRae rode easily in second position, shoot- ing ahead in the last lap and winning easily.

Although there were ten entries for this race, Andrews appeared alone at the starting point and covered the distance for time. He made a particularly creditable performance, the previous best time for this race being 56 2/5 secs whereas the world's record is 49 1/5.
