Special rewards have recently been offered in Singapore by the police for the discovery of counterfeiters, owing to the quantity of spurious coins in oirculation. A Chinaman was discovered making coins last week and a large quantity of coins and the complete coining outfit were seized. When before the Magistrate the accused said the coins were only intended for buttons!

On the occasion of the Imperial luncheon given in honour of Admiral Sperry, the Em- Admiral with a large silver vase bearing the peror of Japan was pleased to present the Imperial.orest. The Admiral tendered his sincere thanks to His Majesty for the handsome gift, which, he said, would be preserved by his family as almemento of a most interest ing occasion.

Mr. Charles Parry, agent in Saigon of the China Mutual Life Insurance Company has committed suicide by shooting himself. Deceased was the son of an English Bishop. He was well-known in Shangbai At the funeral, which was largely attended, Mr. O'Connor, the British Consul, spoke in feeling terms of Mr. Parry's high character and estimable social qualities. Mr. Parry was thirty-fire years of age.
