The Consul General of China Las called the attention of the Governor General of the Philip- pines to the frequency with which murderous assaults have been commi ted upon Chinamen in Manila of late. Especial allusion was mad to the murders in Pandacan, Intramuros, and Trozo, in all of which cases the criminals are still at large and which, the Consul believes, to reveal a determined and systematic persecution of his countrymen. He asks for a greater measure of security for the lies and property of bis nationals in Manila. The general opinion in ocial circles, says the Cablenews, especially in the office of the prosecuting attorney and the department of secret servic is that these murderons assaults are due to the activity of the Tongs, or Chinese secret societies int which the Chinese of Manila are divided. The attack made by three Chinamen on a fellow countryman on calle Balic Balio lends colour to this belief.
