M. Frédéric Voinot, Secrétaire du Commis sariat at Courbevoie, bas been appointed Chief of Police for the French Concession at Tientsio, on the recommendation of M. Lépine- Prefect of Police, M. A scientific labour of the utmost importance and faterest is about to be conmenced from Shanghai, says a Northern contemporary. This is a magnetic survey of Chios, and Dr. Edwards of the Carnegie Institute, Washington, who is to carry it through, is at present in Shanghai preparing for the work, which will be by no means light. The death occurred at the Shanghai General Hospital on the 18th inst. of Capt. Arie Renaud, late master of the booket-dredger Rhenania now engaged in the river conservancy work at Woung. FAR EASTERN NEWS.
