SILK.

YOKOHAMA. 15th August-The market for raw silk has steadily advanced since the last report and closes firm." The arrivals of waste silk to date are very small and the stock does not increase. A few transaction have been done in Kikai Kibizzo, and prices at the close are very firm for this class of waste. Habulai.—Continued firm- ness has been the feature of Kanazawa since the commencement of the month, some weights showing an advance of two per cent. This is more probably due to the activity of the silk | market rather than to any particular enquiries from abroad. All weights and qualities show in Echizen a strong advance, particularly lighter textures, but business has been abnormally quiet. There is no change of any importance to note

in the market für Kawamata.

MISCELLANEOUS EXPORTS

Messrs. Arnhold, Karberg & Co.'s Fortnightly Produce Circular, dated Shanghai, 24th August, 1908, states:- Gallnuta.-Some orders have been placed for forward delivery, there is no spot cargo jeft. Cowhides-Season closed. Feathers.A steady demand continues, without change in prices. Cotton.-The new crop is coming on well, and the season is expected to open early. Bather lower prices are anticipated. Strawbraid. -Price of Loyeh and Kwongchow, white continues to advance and the small lots coming forward find a ready market. The demand for Fine 7-end Split. Shingkee White and Laichow, Mottled continues ¡-stocks of same are nil and arrivals very small. Prices firm, Wool.beeps.-Very little business, prices firm. Wood Oil-A little doing, price a trifle easier. Antimony.-There is a small business all the time at slightly varying prices,

HONGKONG SHARE QUOTATIONS.

HONGKONG, 4th September, 1908.-There has been no material change in the general condition of our market during the past week. and business still continues very restricted. Barzilver bas receded to 234d., and T.T. on London to 1/9. Shanghai T.T. remains at 75.

BAXES.-Hongkong and Shanghais have been done in small lo's at $750 and $752§, and olose with small buyers at $750. The London rate has advanced to £78. 10. 0. Nationals are without change at $51 buyers.

MARINE INSURANCES.—Unions after touch- ing $745 have hardened and close with sales at $750. North Chinas continue in request at Tis. 80, and Yangtases at $160. There are sellers of Cantons at the reduced rate of $215.

FIE INSURANCES,-Hoogkong have firmed up and are now in request at $315. Chinas are still wanted in a small way at $924.

SHIPPING.-Hongkong, Canton and Macaos have been booked at $274 and close steady at the rate. Douglases are easier with sellers at $88, and Chius and Manilas co tinne on offer at $15. Str Ferries (n-w) are still enquired for at $15, and Shell Transports at 448.

Beyiner(R8, Quotations change, and there is no business to report.

MINING. No change is reported in quota- tions, but Raubs could probably be placed a 87. DOCKS, WHARves and GodOWNS. - Hong. kong and Whampoa Dooks have weakened and shares are now procurable at $97. Hongkong and Kowloon Wharves are firmer with buyers at $48, Shanghai Dooks are wanted at the north at Tle 85. Hongkow Wharves, however, have declined to Tla. 70 with sellers.

COTTON MILLE.—EWOs have; declined to Tla 61; the other Northern Mills are however unchanged. Hongkongu bave been booked at $11.

MISCELLAN BOUs, — Green Island Cements have been booked at $10 or the interim dividend of 40 cents per share on sooount of 1908 paid on the 31st ultimo. Electrics have been done st $16$ and Peak Tramways (new) st $2. There are buyers of China Providents at $94, Dairy Farms at $194, and United Asbestos at $18. China-Borneos are procurable at $104. Ropes at $24, Union Waterboats at $104, and China Light and Powers at $61. Langkats have advanced in the North to Tla. 600 bayers.
