HONGKONG 24th July.-There has only been a limited inquiry for tonnage during the past fort- night, and rates are lower all round.
From Saigon to this 13 cents last and no further steamers wanted at present; to Singapore, 14 cents and 13 cents per picul have been paid; to Philippines, 1 fixture reported at 20 cents per pidul; to Kobe, 21 cents has been accepted for a medium sized carrier: to Java, 22 cents last. From Java to Hongkong and Japan, no demand. From Bangkok to this, 25/18 cents nominal. From Newchwang to Canton, 20 cents last. From South Japan Coal port to Hongkong, $2 25 per ton. The follow- ing are thesettlements:-

Mengra. J. P. Bisset & Co.'s Share Report for the week ending 18th July, states :-Our market since our last has been on the whole very quiet and there is nothing of particular importance to report in this week's business, beyond the slight decline in Shanghai and Hongkew Wharf shares Banka.-Hongkong and Shanghai Banks. A transaction is reported on the 10th instant, at $770. Since our last the results for the half-year are telegraphed from the Head Office, as follows: Dividend £2.0.0. Added to Silver Reserve $5 lacs. Carried Forward to next half year $20 lacs. Writ- tau off premises Account $250,000. Industrial There is no business reported. Shipping.-There is no business reported. Docks and Wharves. Shanghai Dock and Engineering Co., Ltd. There is nothing reported but the price remains at Tls. Kweiyang-British steamer, 1,044 tons, New- 79, Shanghai and Hongkow Wharves. A trans-chwang, Tairen and Chefoo to Canton, 20 cents action is reported on the 13th at Tls. 217) for September. Since then a fair number of cash shares came out for sale and rates declined to Tls. 2124 and Tls. 211. At the close there are buyers for September at T's. 215. Sugars.-No- thing reported. Mining.-A sale of a small lot of London scrip is reported at Tla. 15 for cash. Lands. Shanghai Land Investment Co. market has been quiet, closing with buyers at Tis. 122. Anglo-French Lands remain at Tls. 101, Industrial.-Ěwo Cottons have had a strong market during the week and shares have changed hands at Tls. 60 for cash and Tis. 62 for October. Laou Kung Mows. There has been some demand for these shares for September and transactions are reported at Tls. 86 and Tls. 804. Shanghai Gas Co. Shares have improved to Tls. 115 at which rate there are buyers. Shanghai Ice Co. A small lot of shares was sold at Tls. 14 and there are further sellers. Shanghai Pulp and Paper Co. shares have been dealt in at Tl. 48. Maatschappij, &c., in Langkats. Not a single transaction is reported in this stock this week. Prices remains steady at Tis. 522 for cash and Tla. 537 for September. Shanghai Sumatra Tobacco Co. At the beginning of the week there was a considerable demand and rates were rapidly carried from Tls. 874 to Tls. 93 for cash and from Tls, 90 to Tls. 95 for September, but as steadily became slack, and there are sellers at these rutes and possibly & little under. Shanghai Electric Construction Co. Shares have changed hands From Hankow per Conference Steamers,—To at £10 for bearer scrip with Exchange 2/5. London and Northern Continental ports 45/- per Miscellaneous.-Only very small lots have been ton of 40 c. ft. plus river freight. To Genoa, dealt in and rates remain as appended below. Marseilles or Havre 45/- per ton of 40 c. ft. plus Loans and Debentures. - Shanghai Municipal river freight. To New York (via Suez) General Debentures have buyers at Tls. 1034. WithCargo 30/- per ton of 40 c. ft. plus river Freight. the exception of Astor House 7 per cent debs. To New York (via Suez), Tea 37/6 per ten of 40 c. which have been dealt in a Tia.
