Messrs Wheelock & Co. of Shanghai in their Freight Market Report, of the 7th inst state:-There is no change to report in Homeward Freight market since last writing and as the commencement of the Hankow tea season is rather later this year than usual it is impos- sible to foretell exactly what the prospects are likely to be in any one direction. The only item of interest to the shipping world is that the Austrian Lloyd has at last decided to join the "China Homeward Freight Conference" from the 1st of October, 1908 so that now every steamship line of any consequence whatever belongs to the Conference. Coast wise:-the slight spurt that took place about a month has now entirely sub- sided again and Coasting business is very quiet. A few fixtures of "outsiders" have been made fo this season's tea trade Siberian ports on time. charter basis, but otherwise there is no demand worth mentioning.
