FIRE BRIGADE.

The report of the superintendent of Fire Brigade for the year 1907 states:

There were 39 fires and 76 incipient fires during the year as against 30 and 67 in 1906. The estimated damage caused by fires was $14,710.65 by incipient fires $1,541.90. The Brigade turned out 56 times during the year. There was constant supply of water in the fire mains throughout the year. One fire occurred in the harbour during the year. The conduct of the brigade has been good.

The English Mail of March 20th arrived per P. & O. 8.8. Oceana on the 15th inst. This packet brought the parcel mails which closed in London for despatch by the all-sea route on 11th March and for despatch overland on the 18th March.

Mr. Wood - Have you made an application to the Government to invent a new licence for Japanese ?

Mr. Stephens said he had not.

The Justices discuss d the matter in camera and the Court was cleared. After about ten minutes the Chairman intimated that the licence would be granted, on condition that the place was properly kept.
