A serious collapse is reported as having taken place on the new Railway near Taipo on March 27th. One of the smaller tunnels on the 226 Hongkong side of the bore gave way, but 226 fortunately no one was injured. It is cal- 227culated that the damage done amounts to ver 227825,000.

Mr. G. A. Woodcock, who has for several years been the secretary to the Sanitary Board, left for home this week by the "Awa Maru" on a well earned holiday. His place was taken, at the last meeting by Dr. Paaroe, but that was only temporary, and probably the appoin ment of his nogessor will be gazetted. Mr. Wood- cook has discharged the duties of his office with marked success, and his never failing courtesy and genial personality made him respected by the staff of the Sanitary Department and endeared him to all with whom he came in con- taot. Mr. Woodo ck, who has suffered several bereavements of late and who has had a very busy time within the past years will be accompanied with many good wishes for his return at the end of the year in better health He will leave his two daughters in England.

An interesting wedding took place at the Jewish Synagogue on Mar. 29th the contracting parties being Miss Juliet Florence daughter of the late Mr. S. A. Joseph and M. T. Toledano, of the E. E. A. and C. Telegraph Company. A large congregation attended to witness the quaint and interesting ceremonial and to shower good wishes on the happy couple who well

known in colony. The bride who was attired in an Empire gown, was given away by her brother, Mr. J. E. Joseph, and was followed by her mother and elder sister, Miss Mozelle Josehp. Two pages, Masters Lawrence and Hor os Kadoorie, held her train. 'The gown was of appliqué, Brussels and silk Fitn lace. The full beautiful soft white satin profusely trimmed with court train of satin falling from the shoulders was ornamented with true lovers' knots, decorated with bunches of orange blossoms and chiffon. The bride carried à bouquet of lilies of the valley and white lilao. Mr. 'S. H. Michael acted as best man. Mr. D. H. Silas, assisted by Mr. H. A. Meyer, officiated.
