HONGKONG, 27th March, 198 More general activity has been noticeable in cat market during the past week, and a fair volume of business at current rates has been transacted. The feature of the period under review has been the sudden advance in China Sugars, for which a strong unsatisfied demand at the close prevails. Bar Silver has ruled fairly steady during the interval, and is quoted to-day at 25p. 4, exchange on London closing at 1. 10 T.T., and ‹n Shang hai at 744 T.T The Bank of England rate of discount remains at 3 per cent, but the open market rate for 3 months hills has been again reduced, and is pow quoted at 23 per cent.
BANKS, -Hongkong & Shanghais have ruled slightly easier, and sales have been booked at $6921, and $690, market elesing with small sellers at the former rate, and buyers at the latter. London quotes £75 as against £75, 10s. a week ago. Nationals are unchanged, ard are again without reported transactions.
