SHARE REPORTS.

The the

HONGKONG 21st February, 19 8. anticipated improvement in business af or holidays appears to be a plant of but slow growth, and although rates remain ste dy we have but little business to report. The dis turbed condition of the political hor.zon in Europe has doubtles, had a great deal to do with the somewhat slack week we have to report upor, but with the influx of dividend money on the market a better result might reasonably have been expected, although it is a ques ion how much of such money was available for investment. The market, however, although closing a selling one, remaius fairly steady, and only wants a small demend to show a substantial improvement in most stocks, as there does no appear to be any selling pressure, and holders are not at all likely to force their shares on the market. Exchange on Londen T. 1. IDE

BANKS.-Hongkong and Shanghais, after the payment of the dividend of 82206941 on the 17th inst, were quoted at 8700, and a few small sales were effected at that rate. Sales at 332 are reported, and further shares

probably ob'ainable at the rate.

аге

SHIPPING.-Hongkong Canton and Macacs have tuled rather weaker, and small sales have been effected at $30, 197 and 29), the market closing with some small bagers at the latter rate. Indo-Chinas remain unchanged and without business. Stir Ferrys are euquired for at quotations, but no shares are available. Shell Transports have declined to 458. in sympathy with a fall on the London market to 45 i. have no business to report in this s'ock, and th rate may be considered a nominal one.
