re-sale business having been put through. Sheet- ings-We have hut little of interest to write under this head beyond that Chefoo mer- chants have been buying in rather small quantities. Cotton Flannels.-A little more atten- tion has been paid to these during the week, and re-sales are returned in Indian Head at Tla. 4.12), Laconia at Tls. 4.05, and Five Brothers at Tls. 3.90. Dynd and Fancy Cottons.-Demand seems to be still confined to low quality Figured Cotton Lastings and Fast Blacks for the Hankow market; and these goods are rather firmer thongh prices are still very considerably below replacing cost. Fast Black Cotton Lastings at auction weaker on the whole though a few chops improved. Worsteds and Woollens.-We have not heard of any business except at the auctions where Camlots were rather easier, Long Ells firm, and Lastings and Spanish Stripes steady. Cottons.-The market for the local staple has ruled quiet throughout the week with comparatively small supplies coming in from the country and a poor demand both for export and for local consump tion. Quotations remain the same as those we gave last week. The Liverpool market is reported by Reuter as quiet with Middling American quoted at 5.87d, and Egyptian at 101d. per lh. Yarn.-Local Yarn is quiet and weaker, and Indian steady. It is reported amongst local dealers that Japanese mills are giving the market. a chance to right itself by agreeing amongst themselves to discontinue shipments for some time, and higher prices are now being asked for spot cargo.

The past fortnight has been quite devoid oʻ interest; our market has remained without orders, either from Europa or from America; moreover the latest advices from these markets do not hold out much hope of an approaching revival. Never theless this persistent stagnation has not had, up to the present, a very great influence upon our Chinese markets which, although weaker, are not altogether demoralized.
