nly a few days before two Chiaese who had been enticed on board the Ajaz bound for Singapore leaped overboard in the Sulphur Channel and were nearly drowned before they were picked up by the Harbour Master's lannob. Curiously enough a similar incident took place on June 8th at almost the same place. It is not known from which vessel he threw himself, but he was found by the Y.M.C.A. bathing party in an exhausted sta'e, not far from the stranded 404 Choising. Though he could swim he must have been in the water considerable time, as he was com letely exhausted when rescued. He stated that when be found himself being taken to Singapore against his will he jumped overboard. As is well known the recrui ing|for emigrants is attended with grave abusos here.
