Gresson has resigned his seat on the Board and Mr. H. Keswick bas accepted the invitation of the Directors to all the vacancy thus caused. The retiring directors who offer themselves for re- election will therefore be Hon. Sir Paul Chater, C.M.G, Dr. J. W. Noble, and Messrs A. J. Raymond, G. C. Moxon and . Keswick. 1 have no further remarks to make, but if any shareholder has any questions to ask I shall be pleased to answer them.

No questions being asked, the CHAIRMAN proposed the adoption of the report and accounts as presented.

Mr. TAREANT seconded, and the motion was carried.

EUROPEAN ATTEMPTS SUICIDE.

Miss Ina Benson, barmaid at the Praya East Hotel, attempted to take her life by hanging, in her room at the hotel at midnight on May 21st, Fortunately she was discovered in time, and she was cut down, recovering herself in about five minutes' time. It appeared that on Tuesday night she had been in the bar and was asked by her employer to play the piano. She did so for some time, and then ceased. A little later" she was asked by him to play again but she did not feel inclined, and said so. anuoyed her employer who is reported to have This apparently informed her that if she would not "do her whack" she had better get out. The cost of making good damage occasioned by the typhoon was $11,105.58 of which $1,771.53 (being the amount spent on the boate) has been debited to Insurance faud.

BRANCH POST OFFICE FOR WANGHAI.

Before the Legislative Council on the 23rd May, the Director of Public Works laid the report of the proceedings of the Public Works Committee beld on the 18th inst. There were present: Hon. Mr. W. Chatham, Director of Public Works, chairman; Hon Mr. C. Mo. I. Messer, Colonial Treasurer, Hop. Messrs E. A. Hewelt, E. Osborne, and W. J. Gresson The Chairman explained that the opinion of the Committee was desired on the question of the site upon which the branch post office should 39,486.37 be erected. It was originally intended to alter 858.75 Nr. 3 Police Station, in Queen's Road East, 18,548.55 to adapt it for a post office, but the building

that it was ordered to be pulled down. The 137.01

Postmaster General had since represented that $290,081.58 it would be preferable to locate the post office, on the Prays, and bad suggested that it should be in the vicinity of No. 2 Police Station. After discussion, it was unanimously agreed to re- commend that the building should be erected on the reclamation adjoining No. 2 Police Station,
