The total number of boats of all classes at Shaukiwan is 781, at Aberdeen 965 and at Stanley 95. In 1901 the number of boats enumerated at Aberdeen was 947, and at Stanley 119. The Shaukiwan boats appear to have been included in the totals for the Harbour. A number of boats belonging to these three villages were lost in the Syphoon. The number of European, American and other Non-Chinese children between the ages of 6 and 15 years (inclusive) is 1,363 and of Chinese 31,553, Of the latter total 6,860 are males, and 14,693 females.

TYPHOON IN SAMBHUI.

May, 7th.

A destructive typhoon visited Samshui on the 4th inst. Ten houses collapsed, killing hree persons and injuring another. Seven lives were lost among the bost population and more than 200 junks were destroyed. The damage is now estimated at about $10,000.

INCENDIARISM,

As a result of the frequent occurrence of incendiarism in the shop Yum Man Kee in the 7th Ward, 8i-kwan, a petition was presented to the No. 6 Police Station to keep a sharp watch for the guilty person. In the afternoon of the 4h, a maid servant was detected on the roof with a jar of kerosene and matches, and was arrested. She was found to belong to a family residence in the vicinity, and revenge was sup- p. sed to be her motive.

THE XPLOSION SCARE.

On the 5th instant H. E. the Viceroy went to see the Tartar General with regard to the removal of all magasines in the city to an isolated place outside Canton, after making sa inspection of the one exploded recently.
