5lbs over weight (Mr Clarke) 2 attracted a large gathering. H.E. the Governor | Mr John Peel's Biladale 11st 11b' occupied bis usual place in the stand. The card included six events, and on the whole they Mr F. II. May's Huang 1st 1lb proved very interesting. The first race gave opportunities to the non-placed ponies to show their form, but nothing defiuite could be base:1 on the performances in that race. Results:- THE "LUCKY" CUP.-Value $250, Presented. After several false starts, the bunch got away Off Chance and Cherub being in the van. High land Bonnet lay third and soon passed into second place, but in the straight Dublin drew ahead and though Master rode well he could not do better than follow the leader. Moorish Chief and Pride of Cadzow partnered at the start, the former leading past the foot- ball stand. Then Pride of Cadzow went to the fout but Southdown, hard ridden
up the bill, challenged, and leading into the straight,

(Mr Dupree) 0 Tip Cat went off at the start, Zapeter being held back up the bill, allowing the former to gain a lead of about 30 lengths, which was slightly reduced passing the football stand. Using the whip Dupree tried to close up at the village, and though he rode hard he discovered his mistake. He had left the final effort till too late, and be had to take second plaos. Time 3,16. Winner: $7.60. Pari mutuek: $6.20.

A good start, Brython and No Wanchee lealing, the former kept ahead for some way, but Bilsdale coming through inside looked like winning. (Mr Dupree) 0 Comanche and Crisis took the lead together and kept in company all the way round to the hill when Crisis drew ahead but had to give place to his rival. Past the village Vida whipped up his mount and snatched victory from Manchurian Chief. Time 1.35-4/5. Winner: $16.50. Pari- mutuel: lat, $7.80; 2nd, $7.
HONG KONG STEAMER ASHORE.
On Feb. 26th Messrs. A.R. Marty ani Co., Agents for the Cie de Navigation Tonkinoise, received a telegram informing them that their steamer" Hailan"(Captain Andersen) was ashore on Hainan Island. The vessel was on a vʊyagə from Hogkong to Hoihow and Haiphong with a general cargo. She also carried seven passengers, six being priests of the Procure des Missions Etrangers. She left this port on the 19th inst, and grounded at Hainan Head the day following. After striking, the vessel floated again, but as it was found she had ́ considerable water in her alt hold, the Captain decided to beach her, and ran her aground. Her position is not regarded as dangerous, and it is hoped that she will remain undamaged until
